1.The movie is inspired by director Bong Joon-ho's own Life
Bong Joon-ho worked as a tutor to the children of a rich family in Seoul while he was still studying in college. He took inspiration from his experience for the spine of the movie's plot. He felt that he was spying on them at times. This experience in his life. Bong imagined what would happen if a private tutor like him became cunning and tried to trick his wealthy employer into hiring his entire poor family.
2.The Kim family’s house and the neighbourhood were built on a set
The residence of the Kim family in the movie looks like it is in a slum. However, it is not a real house. The Kim family’s house and all the neighbourhood houses were only built on a set that was double the size of a water tank to be used in the movie. The props and materials were taken from abandoned homes that were soon to be demolished. Since everything looks so real, all this is impossible to notice in the movie.
3. Kim Ki-jung & Kim Ki-woo sing a song which is a real song in Korea
Before Kim Ki-Jung and Kim Ki-woo entering the Park home, they sing a song at the entrance. The truth is that this is a real song sung by the school children in South Korea to help them in remembering things.
4.Choi Woo-Shik & Song Kang-ho accepted their roles without reading the script
Popular Korean actors Choi Woo-shik and Song Kang-ho, who play Kim Ki-woo and Ki-taek respectively have already worked with the writer of the film earlier for Memories of Murder, The Host, and Snowpiercer. They trusted the writer with the script and accepted their roles in it even they had no idea what Parasite was about.
5. Bong Joon-ho was surprised by the film's success
Bong said that because the plot was unusual, he was only hoping to make his money back. It was surprising that Parasite had the highest per-screen average for a foreign-language release in the U.S. Bong believes that the reason why Parasite resonated with a large audience was that everyone lives in the same country now which is capitalism.
